I’ve been looking forward to this new “Climbing Aboard the Dragon” blog entry for quite a while now. Here’s a shot of it, now live at the Black Gate blog:
Today’s entry, “Maps and the Fantasy Writer,” is all about MAPS! Why I love them as a reader of fantasy books, why I like to make them for my own fiction, and how they can help make your life much easier if you are a writer, too.
I also have a map there that I made myself. I don’t know if that was a wise move… I am no artist! 🙂
And hey, after you read it and laugh at my map, go ahead and leave a comment there, too. Much appreciated!
Here are the earlier blog entries I did there:
- “Ten Things I Know Now”
- “Battles Inside and Out“
- “10 Tips to Better Productivity“
- “Three Paths to a Story“
- “Homework Every Day“
Enjoy! And happy writing.
I love maps. When I was in high school, my mother let me decorate my own bedroom. I painted 3 walls a dark forest green, then got AAA maps and used them as wallpaper on the 4th wall. After she got over the initial shock (you did WHAT), she admitted it looked pretty classy. In college, upon graduation, I discovered I had a minor in geography (just kept taking those classes dealing with mapping). And ended up in a profession where I use maps on a daily basis. There’s a theme to all this…maybe it’s that I’d like to know where I’m going, where I’ve been.

That is very cool — got any pictures of that room? Cool idea.
I’m a big fan of maps. An even bigger fan of tossing them in the back seat sometimes and getting LOST.
