Back to the mornings

I decided this weekend to suck it up and get to writing, so I set the alarm for 4:25 a.m. today and got up and wrote.

Of course, Mitch decided he wanted to get up too, so I didn’t get started right away — I gave him a bottle and rocked him back to sleep. He’s got a nasty runny nose that won’t go away, poor guy.

And then around 5:30, Drew got up. He and Just Kitty sat bundled up in my office chair next to me as I ran through chapter six, making tweaks here and there, and getting up to speed on my characters and their situation again. I’d been thinking about my characters a lot in the past week, something I haven’t done in a long time, and that got me excited to get back to work. Even if that did mean getting up at o’dark thirty. I hate to say this, but things are about to get pretty bad for my protagonist Kait and her pals. Sorry ’bout that, guys. Just raising the stakes — hope you don’t mind…!

The Jasper men are gonna be tired tonight!

And so, the ol’ status meter returns:

Updated to Add: Also, I think I’m not gonna shave ’til I’m done with this durn novel, so you can also expect a Fuzz-o-Meter too!

This obviously means we’re going to need before/after photos!

  2. In 20 years your house will be so quiet you won’t be able to write. Those two little “mascots” are your inspiration.
I enjoyed Mitch and Drew SOOOOO much this weekend! I wish I could figure out how to download the short videos I took.

  3. I like the “fuzz o meter”. I always have to have an odd way to gauge progress, too. Must be in our blood!??
I agree with what Mom said. When the kids are gone you lose that inspiration to get up at 4:30 to get your work done…..oh, I can do it later

  4. I always have to keep up with my progress, especially on these long-term projects. Do you keep up with your running progress in some crazy way?

I don’t want to think too hard about my boys growing up… Can’t believe how much time has passed already!
