For some reason — probably our crazy-busy (but fun) weekend — but I didn’t get around to posting these two “public service announcements” related to our upcoming trip to Dyersville, Iowa. We’re going for a family reunion, and I wanted to do some fun book-related stuff while we’re there.
Michael Jasper, former resident of Dyersville, Iowa, and author of short stories, the romantic suspense novel Heart’s Revenge (writing as Julia C. Porter), and the recently published science fiction novel The Wannoshay Cycle, will be at the James Kennedy Public Library in Dyersville on Friday, July 25, 2008 at 7:00 pm. Mr. Jasper will talk about his experiences as a writer, read from his works, and answer questions from the audience. Participants in his afternoon children’s writing workshop may also share some of their writing. Copies of Jasper’s books will be available for purchase at a discount and Michael will be happy to autograph them. Refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the Library.
I’m excited about the reading and discussion, but I’m more excited about this event, earlier that day:
Children who have completed 4th grade and up are invited to participate in the “Catch the Reading Bug” writing workshop. Author Michael Jasper will present this workshop for young people who are interested in learning more about creative writing. Mr. Jasper is currently finishing up a young adult fantasy novel set mostly in Dubuque. Participants will have the opportunity to read from their writings at the instructor’s presentation and book signing at 7:00 pm. Registration is required as space is limited to 12 children. Please call or stop in the library to reserve your place. Michael Jasper is former resident of Dyersville.
Big, big thanks to Shirley Vonderhaar at the Dyersville Library for setting all this up! It should be fun — see ya there. Later…
