December 28, 2009: I finished up my sixth story of the year, a fantasy tale about a homeless guy, cats, and magic: “Skidmark and Mudbeam.”

December 7, 2009: In honor of the season of giving, I’m offering up another novel-related story for your reading pleasure: “Coal Ash and Sparrows,” an outtake from A Sudden Outbreak of Magic.

December 2, 2009: To celebrate finishing my baseball novel The All Nations Team, I’m posting the All Nations story “A Miracle in Shreveport” here on my site, in its entirety.

November 30, 2009: We did it! In Maps & Legends won the November 2009 Zuda Comics competition! We’re working for DC Comics now!

November 17, 2009: Edward Kaye at the Hypergeek site did an incredible interview with artist Niki Smith and me about our comic “In Maps & Legends.”

November 2, 2009: The Secret Project revealed! The opening to “In Maps & Legends” is now live at the Zuda Comics site, as part of their November competition. Go read and vote!

October 31, 2009: Happy Halloween. Final touches on my YA fantasy novel A Sudden Outbreak of Magic are done! Going out to publishers on Monday. Boo!

October 27, 2009: Just now recovering from the intense Master Class, which was awesome, and have three new stories to put out in the mail. Got a dozen stories out there now.

October 3-18, 2009: I’ll be spending these two-plus weeks at the Oregon Coast, studying with over a dozen other writers and editors, pushing myself hard as a writer at the Master Class. See ya on the 19th!

September 15, 2009: My short story collection Gunning for the Buddha is now available in a super-cheap Kindle edition — only $4.99!

September 10, 2009: Just for kicks (and maybe for a couple bucks here and there), I set up an online “store” to help folks find my fiction (paper and digital) for cheap. Buy early, buy often!

September 8, 2009: Finished up (and sent out) my second brand-new story for the year. I’m on a roll! This one’s called “Finder.”

August 25, 2009: Finalized the opening pages of the Secret Project with collaborator Niki Smith, and it’s now officially entered in the Competition-to-be-Named-Later.

August 24, 2009: Sent off A Sudden Outbreak of Magic, plus an updated synopsis and a snappy cover letter, to my agent. The novel is done. On to the next project(s)!

July 26, 2009: Finished up my first brand-new (well, almost brand-new, since I used characters from my first novel) story, “Twenty-ten,” just in time for this contest. Woo!

July 19, 2009: Cowabunga brains! My surfing redneck zombie story is going to be reprinted in The Best of All Flesh, due out in December.

June 13, 2009: I’m reworking A Sudden Outbreak of Magic, my young-adult contemporary fantasy novel set in Dubuque, Iowa, once more, and it’s gonna be a good one when I’m done!

May 12, 2009: My story “Natural Order” was reprinted in the latest Relief Anthology: The Fleas They Carried, and the book is now available. Spend $12 and help save some innocent pups in the process!

April 30, 2009: I’m furiously finishing up my novel outline so I can finish a re-draft of the last 50,000 words of The All Nations Team for the nifty, new MayNoWriMo! Whoo!

April 17, 2009: John Teehan at Forces of Geek looks at A Gathering of Doorways and comes up with the most comprehensive review I’ve seen — he really got the book (even the bits I sort of messed up!).

March 26, 2009: I finally finished revising the heck out of chapter one of The World’s All Nations. Let the mad flurry of revising truly get underway!

February 26, 2009: My story “Natural Order” will be reprinted in the second Relief Anthology (this one goes to help support dog rescues in Seattle — an awesome cause).

February 19, 2009: I’m starting work on the rewrite of my fantasy/historical/baseball novel The World’s All Nations, which means I’m doing lots of staring off into space and scribbling down ideas.

February 3, 2009: At last, you can buy my “rural fantasy” novel A Gathering of Doorways at Amazon.com and other fine bookstores today. Sweeeet.

January 25, 2009: I finished up all the revisions to my YA fantasy A Sudden Outbreak of Magic, and sent off the manuscript, plus synopses for all three books in the trilogy, to my agent. Whew!

January 15, 2009: A Gathering of Doorways is at the printers, at last! Which means I have a cover, at last, and more importantly, the book will finally be released (only four months late).
